Anyone here into powder burners? It's been awhile since I've done anything with mine. Yesterday I found a few AR-15 and 1911 receivers in my box 'o parts so I'm thinking of doing a couple builds with these over the next few weeks.

Here's a pic of my very first custom build. The frame is an Olympic Arms frame which was incomplete from the factory (had no rails cut). I cut the rails, fitted the Ed Brown slide and barrel to the frame, and finished it off with Wilson Combat parts, Novak Tritium front and rear sights and custom aluminum grips.

Nice piece! No rails cut? I didn't know they would do that. I guess that's a good way to build one so you don't have any slop between your frame and slide. I bought a knockoff Norinco about 20years ago and did some minor 'tricking' it out. I'll bet there's been 8000 rounds through it. It's still a good shooter and I don't think I could part with it now. I would like to have your sights though.

Yeah them sights cost quite a bit, but are worth it to me. Easy to line up, lights up in the dark and nice and sleek for no snag. Yeah years ago there were tons of 1911 frames floating around and marketed toward home builders who wanted to custom fit their slides. I'll tell ya, lapping that slide to the frame took me quite awhile to do but resulted in a really nice fit.

Here's a few of my pistolas. As you can see, I'm a big fan of the Ruger. The .454 is a Magnum Research BFR. 10" of barrel will let it send a 250g jsp at 2000fps. I mainly stick with the 300-360g hard cast LBT loads at a mild 1600fps:p. The .45LC in my avatar and one of these pics has a custom made 5 shot cylinder that I toiled over for quite awhile. This was the pinnacle of my machining projects. There is near zero play and I can load up 300g LBT's and send them through the pipe at almost 1300fps. This little monster leaves the web between my thumb and trigger finger bloody after 5 rounds. The hammer likes to bite! The MKII slabside .22 has had it's guts slickened and this pistol can spin 3" targets consistently at 100yds (I love this plinker). The .45 1911 is the Norinco that I picked up for $200 and it was my first concealed carry pistol. It's full of Colt and Pachmayer parts. I'd love to get a 'brand name' 1911, but this one has never let me down. If I ever save up enough, the S&W .500 magnum will be next:rockon:. Man I love Pain!

That's an impressive collection you got there and the custom cylinder is kick ass! If you dremel out the web of your hand now, it should be fully healed by the time you get your.500. :p

I'll let my wife shoot it first to see how hard it kicks! Ha.

The first time my wife shot my .454, she just about did the same thing. She just giggled and fired another 3 rounds. She's a real trooper.;)

I've seen this happen a few times, but most people I saw freaked and dropped the gun. At least she held on to the pistol and kept it pointing downrange.

Guys,
Don't be fooled by size the little one's the kicker. I can only shoot three shots out of it. SIZE DOES MATTER.

The long barrel on the .454 really tames down the punch. Shooting that 'little one' can be compared to taking a hit to the bottom of the barrel with a baseball bat. Makes my .44 magnum feel like a .38 special.
