Anybody ever removed the front sight off the Storm? I want to get rid of it but i'm not sure whats under there. I don't want to remove it if there's some splines or something under there.
I will never use it and I can't see having that thing dig into my hand anymore while cocking it.
I saw in another thread where RCnMo chopped his Quest, thead shrouded it......That looks sharp!
I figure if it is ugly under there I could.......errr I mean somebody could do that for me.
I removed mine and even chopped the barrel down to 14" which I think was a bit too short. The next time around I'll probably do 15" or 15.5". There are splines that hold the sight on. Just take a piece of wood and set it up against the sight and tap it off using a small hammer or something.

Nothing wrong with 14" Jon. Looks real cool and the cocking effort is still low enough for me, with my bad back.
Don't know for sure yet, but I recall timmy mentioning he discovered 14.5" to be ideal with accuracy and performance (unchoked). Though it may just depend on velocity, the gun itself and perhaps other factors that's hard to make it definite. I also read that in a springer only a few inches (about 7-10 if I'm not mistaken) is really utilized and the rest is just extra but I can't shake the thought that the "extra" amount may help with pellet yawing, because after I did the chop I did notice a lot more sideway strikes on target. Mike is working on the 14 incher I chopped to see if perhaps a shroud/weight or taming the action a little can improve the performance to better than 1 inch at 20 yards.

I'm going to slip her back together this afternoon, I'll let you know how she does.
Yeah I was thinking heavier pellet but didn't get a chance to try it since I didn't have any. Maybe with a new spring a heavier pellet would work well.
