View Full Version : can anyone recommend pellet accurate at 50 yards? carolinagunner 08-22-2010, 06:43 PM Would you recommend any 17 cal. pellets for squirrels at 50 yards? I'm shooting a Crosman G1. carolinagunner 08-22-2010, 08:18 PM How about these - http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Beeman_Kodiak_Match_Extra_Heavy_177_Cal_10_65_Grai ns_Round_Nose_300ct/299 diarmadhim 08-22-2010, 11:24 PM If they are accurate for you they will work or the predators, or jsb 10.2gr Why 50 yds? WestTexas FarmBoy 08-23-2010, 09:01 AM If you are hunting at 50 yards, you might want to check into getting a scope that you can use as a range finder with an easily adjustable elevation turret and make sure you create a trajectory chart. Check this out: http://www.pyramydair.com/site/articles/ao-meaning/ about half way down the page he kinda gets into using the Adjustable Objective as a range finder. American Airgunner on Sportsman Channel had a series of episodes where they showed how to use a big wheel side AO adjusting scope to do that. I would love to have the $$ for one of those scopes -- that looks like a lot of fun!! carolinagunner 08-23-2010, 06:36 PM I have 40 yards of yard as my front yard, then a road. There are a couple of squirrels just a few yards across the road, then maybe 1 or 2 on my side of the road. It's a pretty wide open area so it's a bit difficult to stalk. I can't use higher powered guns because there are some surrounding houses. I've thought about luring them over into my yard more. Squirrel feeder maybe? diarmadhim 08-23-2010, 08:51 PM A squirrel feeder may provide much better results than stalking, if it's all open. WestTexas FarmBoy 08-24-2010, 12:21 AM Just don't get it too close to your house -- don't want them moving in!! headhunter 08-24-2010, 05:39 AM The heaviest accurate pellet out of your gun. A heavy pellet will be more resistant to wind and carries kill power out farther. As you may or may not have read, the G1, Storm, Quest, and Remington Summit are all the same guns with different stocks. A lot of people with those guns have luck with Crosman Premier 10.5 grain, which would be very suitable to your shooting conditions shoot356 08-24-2010, 12:36 PM A squirrel feeder sounds like a great idea. But you may need some sort of a blind to hide in while they come to it. I saw a feeder a while back that was pretty simple - a long rope hung from a tree limb with a barbed spike at the end. Stick that spike into the big end of an ear of corn (dried) and just let them jump from the ground or shinny down the rope out of the tree. Now the obvious problem is that the corn will swing back and forth making it a real chellenge to get a 10X on the squirrel. To solve this I think I would put a large flower pot upside down under it so the squirrel would have to stand on its hind legs and reach up to about the lower third of the ear of corn while picking off a kernel or two. They couldn't eat the kernels while reaching up to the corn - they go straight to the jowels. Then they will sit on the pot while eating the kernels. BAM :sniper: they're down. Now where to get a dried ear of corn. If there are any feed stores in your area they will have them. Lots of feed stores are in rural areas around small towns. Probably none in small towns around major metro areas. If there are any horse stables in your area, someone there could for sure tell you where a feed store is. headhunter 08-25-2010, 03:48 AM That's a pretty clever idea, you could make different levels and distances and have yourself a live action field target match! They'd be much more stationary than while eating from the ground hopping from place to place too, big advantage. Now where did that roll of baler twine go? |
