View Full Version : Maybe I should chop MY barrel
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 03:58 PM I did a pellet push lastnight and here are the results, I have fairly consistent "tightness" in the rifling while pushing the pellet. Not precision but consistent, there are some variations in tightness but for the most part there is resistance in pushing the pellet the entire way until..........As you can see in the picture, at the first mark it (the pellet) seems to sort of free fall until the second mark (Which is essentially is the end of the barrel), At the end of the barrel it really feels like a bad crown more than a choke, because it doesn't really tighten up for any length but more likely "catches" just before the pellet falls out.
It doesn't really seem like an extreme amount to cut off but i don't just want to chop just to be choppin, I just wonder what you guys think.
If I did elect to chop i would want to replace with a muzzle brake just so it doesn't look funny.
What do you think besides, I know I need to remove the front sight and check that crown. I am also concerned with the 5 or so inches of slop/looseness.
craigfperry 12-07-2008, 04:25 PM Cut it.
i'm gonna chop just to chop, that's just me.
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 04:33 PM How much is a good muzzle brake? And do you trust the ones with set screws? They seem like they would loosen up over time. I really don't want to spend another 18 bucks shipping it somewhere. You have to stop spending money on a $99.00 gun at some point I would think.
RCnMo 12-07-2008, 04:36 PM I can't really give any advice when it comes to irreparable stuff to guns. If it were me, I'd lose the loose portion and re crown it. A 13.5" chop doesn't seem too short to me. I like the looks of my 'shorty' now.

+1chop chop
if the MB youre lookin at has two set screws you should be golden, one may be ok but you should use loctite either way.
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 05:18 PM I'm not looking at any right now, in fact I don't even know where to look for one other than the one Paul makes and maybe another tuner or two. I don't think those are suitable for the home install are they?
craigfperry 12-07-2008, 05:37 PM Paul is putting a choker on my Tac1 so the stock break from it will fit yours.
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 06:12 PM I may be interested in that Craig, if I do the chop. Is it the set screw type? Has it ever come lose on you? If you want to sell, how much? Wonder how much Paul would charge for a choker for my Storm? Maybe I could just send the barrel to reduce shipping.....
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 06:13 PM Anybody know anything about this one? Wonder if it would fit the Storm?

craigfperry 12-07-2008, 06:25 PM mine is free, the set screws have never come loose and i don't use lock tite.
Paul charges 65 i think for the choker.
Yes, it should fit the storm with the proper spacer (provided when you order it). I've had that beeman one and it's not a bad brake, but it's short (about 4 inches) and very light (feels like aluminum). The brake off the G1 is a pretty nice brake...
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 06:42 PM I would like to have it Craig but you guys need to make me pay for something! I got my goody box from Jon yesterday, which he wouldn't take a dime for........you guys are starting to shame me.
WBZsDAD 12-07-2008, 06:49 PM Let me know what I owe you Craig, I will send some more money and try to get the brake in with the pellets, thanks.
I agree with you Jon, that brake does look short and the G1 looks better from the pics I've seen
craigfperry 12-07-2008, 11:11 PM i'll put it in with pellets.
no shame, we are like family here someday you will have a chance to help an you will.
pay it forward.
