I am looking for something in this price range for my Nephew, not necessarily this type but more the price.

Is this a good little gun or would you recommend something different for the money? Also it doesn't have to be co2
Thanks, Todd

How old's the nephew? And where do you live (or, how cold does it get)?

He would be supervised and he is 12. We/He lives in South West Florida, our coldest temperatures of the year get down in the mid 30's some nights but quickly warms up to the 50's and warmer during the day (When the nights get that cold). That's a rarity though and may only be for one or two days at a time. Mild weather most of the time but hot hot in the summer

Thanks

Daisy 15xt hands down my favorite cheap Co2 pistol. Easy to load, no break action or stupid 8 shot cylinders to keep track of, no maintenance, holds 15 shots, has a dovetail for mounting optics, hits HARD for a BB gun and looks cool. Only drawback is the heavy trigger but hey, my 9yr old bro can do it and hes kinda wimpy. Damn that sounds mean.

That 2250 is a sweet little rifle out of box and can be modded to your heart's content. Craig has been messing with his 2260 which is pretty much the same rifle, but with a longer stock and barrel. If you want to keep the stock power which isn't so bad for target shooting, just add a steel breech to it and you can securely scope it. If you want more power you can do valve mods, port mods, add a longer barrel, lighten up the spring, etc. It's a fun gun to shoot and mess with - just buy LOTS of co2 'cause you'll be going through them like nothing.

I have two boy's aged 5 and 8 , and I bought a stock QB-78 from Archers for them. Put a cheap 4x32 Crosman scope on it. Less than a $100 and it has been real easy to teach the basics to them. I have started by resting the gun on bags and they got good groups and could hit small stuff right away , which helps keep them interested. The QB also comes as a carbine for a bit more and the stocks are cheap, so cutting one down isn't a huge expense. I like it because it can be used for hunting when they are older and will hold it's value, if something better is traded up. Also picked up a Gamo REcon for 20 bucks at a flea market and the older boy can easily cock it, and loves the look and the stock fits him well. It needs a better trigger and hits are harder to achieve with it. Also consider the Daisy .22 SG. I bought one to replace a .177 Daisy 880 , which cracked it's plastic receiver from just pumping it up. It is easily pumped to the recommended ten pump maximum by my eight year old, and my ten year old nephew. It comes with a decent scope and is made of mostly metal and wood, and is a .22.

Yeah the recon is a good gun for the price and you can shoot it all day without worrying about co2. A basic lube tune, adding of a top hat and stuffing the stock with some poly filling (from pillows) will help. Even without doing any internal work but just stuffing the stock and adding either a trigger mod or replacement gold trigger will improve it a great deal. It can be a little hold sensitive but once your son figures out a good hold and sweet spot, it can be a tack driver. Don't forget to add a good scope or at least a good mount to it if you haven't already.

Thanks for all the response, he shot my son's recon at Thanksgiving which he liked pretty good, I just don't know about him outgrowing it, he is kind of in the in between age (Almost too big for the recon but too small for something like a gamo hunter) but I even like shooting recon so I think I may end up getting him the recon. With the co2 he would probably end up shooting all of his air up and then it would end up sitting in the closet.

However i think i want one of those 2250B's for myself especially with all the mods available

I have to go with Bobber on this one. If you're looking for an inexpensive CO2 rifle with previsions for mods, the QB 78 wins hands down. It already has a steel breech with dovetails, the .177 shoots about 600fps out of the box and with some elbow grease, they will shoot much harder. I've had mine up to the 850 mark, but I recently de-tuned it to 815fps to save gas. I get about 28 full power shots @ 815fps now. No mods will give you about 45-50 full power (600fps) shots. Mine is a tack driver and the trigger is adjustable for let off and overtravel. Archer sells the rotary magazines for it now for around $55 if interested. You can put just about any scope on it and not worry about springer recoil damage. The stock is plain jane, but it has a short L.O.P., making it a more youth oriented rifle. Very well built and only 1 plastic part if I recall. Best $78 I ever spent.

I had a QB 78 awhile back - ordered it "power tuned" by Mike Melick (flying dragon airguns). I paid less than 150 shipped and I was able to get about 25 full powered shots from 2 powerlets off it. It shot really nice and was accurate. If you go the QB route it's worth getting - they're inexpensive and as Rcnmo says the come with lots for the money. If you order it pre-tuned I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it and adding another 50 of so bucks for a tune (extended probe, springs, seals, etc) is a good deal imo.
