Hi all! One of the few things I ever got from my late grandfather was this old pellet gun and an empty bottle of booze. Needless to say, I have zero emotional attachment to this. Anyways, I know nothing about this so my questions are; how old is this, what caliber is this (.177 or .22?), what is it worth and who wants to buy it??!! It is in pretty good shape as you can see. I dont know if it shoots or not as I have no pellets and dont know what caliber it is. The only engravings on this are on one side it says "Sheridan Products, Inc. Racine, WI" and on the other side it says "Silver Streak". There is no serial numbers. Let me know what you think fellas!
Mongoos1 05-01-2011, 06:57 PM I'd guess about $100. I can't buy it, but I would give somewhere close to that. Do some research, it my be a collector's item now.
bryan H. 05-01-2011, 07:02 PM I think you should develop some feelings for it lol. A Sheridan like that from Racine- that is a true blue old school american made Sheridan, in pretty decent condition. It is not .177 or .22-- it is .20 caliber and if it doesn't shoot, with a couple drops of pell gun oil on the pump head it probably will. Honestly hat is a piece of American history-- those old Sheridans are legendary. It will be worth it's weight in gold some day. Truthfully when I see a post like this on the Internet it looks too good to be true, and alarms go off in my head--- I start thinking "seriously? This guy must be trying to rip someone off!". That's how great this is. Don't sell- either send it to mac1 for a rebuild and request to keep it all original as it is a collector's item- or have it steroided at mac1 which will no doubt take away from it's value as a collector's piece but will improve it and make it stronger and last even longer, so your great grandkids can hunt with itlong after you are dead and gone
bryan H. 05-01-2011, 07:05 PM Although, as it is and all original, if you just have it rebuilt and freshened up, and you take are of it like it should have been, it'll probably last that long anyway! The billet steroid upgrade just makes it able to withstand more abuse, and able to shoot a little harder
steelguy 05-01-2011, 07:18 PM Thanks Bryan. No,..not trying to rip any one off,..including myself by letting it go too cheap if indeed it is worth something respectable. I just took these pics this afternoon. I really have no interest in keeping this. Any idea on what it should go for? There is a few on gunbroker, but not like this one,..(different hold down safety and sight on this one). Any help would be appreciated.
Mongoos1 05-01-2011, 08:10 PM I figured is was collectible.
bryan H. 05-01-2011, 08:22 PM In that kind of shape I'm sure you could offer it for around $100 if it doesn't even fire and $150-$200 if it fires at all, even if it won't hold air for more than a day. And you probably wouldn't have to wait long for someone go take that offer either. But with a little tlc, little elbow grease and some spit and polish-- you might be able to get a lot more. It just depends on how much time and effort you wanna put into it, and how long you are willing to wait for a buyer.
steelguy 05-01-2011, 08:28 PM OK. Thanks! any idea on age?
bryan H. 05-01-2011, 08:33 PM Probably made before '77. I don't know the exact date, but some time around I think '77 or '78 Benjamin bought Sheridan and sheridans no longer came from Racine, but I'm not sure. Check out the air gun blog on Pyramydair, you could sign up and post the rifle and a pic maybe, Tom Gaylord loves these things and I doubt he'll pass up the chance to blog about your gun. I wouldn't be surprised if he even made you an offer for it!
steelguy 05-01-2011, 09:33 PM Thanks guys. I have looked at a lot of these online today and havent seen one with the rear sight like mine. ever seen one like that on a sheridan? I registered on pyramydair, but site is not very friendly on how to use,..where to post.
xXcrosmanhunterXx 05-01-2011, 10:10 PM Take it on Pawn Stars. :p
DRIFTER 05-09-2011, 03:17 PM It is older than 70s as it has the push down to fire safety(next came the "rocker" ones), there should be a serial # just forward of where you see Silver Streak close to the end of breech if you would like to find its year of manufacture I would need that, if its still for sale you can contact me at (jaymorgan75@hotmail.com) I might take it with some corrispondence on it. By the way you can check to see if it holds air by pumping it 4 or 5 times press down that safety an just pull the trigger, it will do no harm to the gun as it works off of compressed air not a spring.
headhunter 05-09-2011, 10:05 PM My Sterling was made in Racine, and that was in about '94 before Crosman bought Benjamin the same year.
Tell you the truth, you might be better off holding onto it for a while. Those guns are going to fetch some dollars someday, and if you can find a collector that really wants it then you'll more than likely get a substantial amount of money for it
IsaiahOrtiz 10-12-2011, 11:29 PM silver streaks sell very fast anywhere they are, either airguns.net (the classifieds) or gunbroker.com. it is nickel plated brass and it is a .20 caliber, i have a benjamin blue streak .20 cal from the early 90s but i believe the hold down safety's were from when they first came out in the 50's(?) to the 70's when the rocker safeties came out. you could probably get 250 for it if it fired and the metal and wood is in as good of condition as it looks.
