View Full Version : Gamo Hunter BB Test
Just messing around again with Gamo hunters this time through a recon. I glued bbs into the skirt ends this time and shot one pellet forward and the other bb forward. The second one in the pic is the pellet forward and the third the bb forward. The pellet forward one expanded to about 0.290 and the bb forward one to about 0.240". I haven't tested accuracy.
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 03:17 PM that weights 13 gr be careful
Yeah I'm not gonna be shooting them regularly any time soon I just felt like messing around this morning. I wonder where I could get small plastic bbs...
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 03:34 PM they look like they hit hard.
Yeah they pack quite a punch, but they're just too heavy. Once I find some small diameter plastic bbs I'm gonna try those in the skirt of a wadcutter and shoot it backwards to see if the plastic bb yields similar results. If it does I'm gonna try some accuracy tests and see if the pellet holds up at longer ranges. I'm pretty sure I can find beads at the local craft store which I'm gonna check out this weekend.
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 03:42 PM how bout #7 or #8 lead shot?
I guess it depends on the weight of the shot...
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 03:56 PM you can get shot all kinds a sizes right?
I believe so - I'm gonna have to check.
Yeah mcmaster sells lead shot in all kinds of sizes, but the smallest is a 5lb container. I'd buy a small bag to start with, but not 5lbs...
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 04:03 PM adustable pellet weight.
i like that idea.
good one Jon.
The smallest lead shot they have is .08". That should fit right inside the tip of a chp...
craigfperry 01-02-2009, 04:08 PM maybe a gun shop
Splash 01-02-2009, 05:53 PM Jon, I'll check Gold Mine and see what size bags he has.
Cool thanks Mike! If you do end up picking up a small bag, maybe next time I'm there we can mess around a little with them...
Splash 01-02-2009, 05:58 PM Sounds good, I'll be out in my play house.
peicemakerss22 01-13-2009, 10:49 PM Hey, iread this and thought, "hey what the hell, might as well try my own spin on this idea." so i took 24 CPHP .22 rounds, put a drop of super glue in each expansion cup and put a .177 daisy steel bb on the top. im going to wait till tomorrow to test them out so the glue can cure. seems like they might pack quite a punch out of my super streak. we shall see. thanks for the idea, jon.
peicemakerss22 01-14-2009, 12:56 PM i did the penetration/ expansion test with the modified pellets i made last night. the medium i was shooting into was a large phone book at point blank range. the first shot was with a standard cphp the second with a cphp with bb. seems as if the bb causes a huge expansion of the pellet at impact which impedes penetration, whereas the standard pellet achieved much more petenetration, yet the expansion factor was almost negligable.... rather interesting.
craigfperry 01-14-2009, 02:06 PM i would take expansion over penetration all day.
peicemakerss22 01-14-2009, 10:30 PM yeah. I say it depends what your hunting, but still more expansion means more damage to the target so i'll choose the high expansion modified rounds. Im gonna try one out on one of those peskey squirrels in the yard tomorrow.
